There are only two days ahead of the opening of Expo 2017 Astana. How is the preparation of World Expo Museum (WEM) Pavilion going? Let me take you to find out and have a look at WEM Pavilion beforehand.

Expo 2017 Astana, Kazakhstan that is themed at “Future Energy” will be grandly open from June 10 to September 10, 2017 with an aim to attract 5 million visitors. At present, 118 exhibitors have confirmed to participate in this Expo.

 “WEM Pavilion” is arranged at C3.2 inside the Expo Site, close to the east entrance of the Site. It has an exhibition area of 630 square meters. The exhibition is titled “EXPO*EXPOS”. The theme is “Everything Begins with Expo –BIE’s Travelling Exhibition on the History of World Expo”.

The exhibition is composed of six parts: Expo Origin, Expo History, the WEM, Expo and Cities, Expo and Energy, and Future Expos. The exhibition uses the language of art space to tell the Expo history of more than 160 years, WEM and the upcoming Expos. Meanwhile, the exhibition will stick to Expo Astana’s theme of “Energy” to express the energy-related stories in a unique and creative way.

After the opening of Expo Astana, the WEM will take advantage of Expo Astana to carry out cultural exchanges with all countries and international organizations, investigate Expo Site and pavilions, collect activities, develop its own business based on the overall deployment of Shanghai cultural exchange with foreign countries, improve its own business, tell good “Expo Stories” in the international language on the world stage, and showcase the cityscape of Shanghai.

The entrance hall exhibits the exhibition theme and Expo spirit of “Comprehension, Communication, Congregation and Cooperation”.

Following the time axis, the display boards exhibit the time, place, duration and theme of each Expo since 1851, accompanied with iconic architectures or photos of pavilions.

Exhibit Expo iconic architectures by physical models, including “Crystal Palace” of Great Exhibition in 1851, “Eiffel Tower” of Expo 1889 Paris, “Ferris Wheels” of Expo1893 Chicago and “China Pavilion” of Expo 2010 Shanghai.

Multimedia interactive exhibits let the visitor know the famous exhibits in Expo history, such as the ancient Greek sculpture – Venus in Expo 1873 Vienna, “the Morse Telegraph” in Great Exhibition displayed, “Rubik’s cube” in Expo 1982 Knoxville, “Old Style Telephone Set” in Expo1876 Philadelphia, USA, and Edison’s vacuum light bulbs and 105V nitrogen light bulbs in Expo 1893 Chicago.

 “Expo History” section divides the Expos based on a timeline into the World Comes Together, Moving with Progress, A New Order and World of Challenges. Visitors are taken back to the scenes of past Expos and experience the historical precipitation through image-text introduction and LED video plays.

The third part is “World Expo Museum” (WEM) area. It begins with the introduction to BIE, the relation between BIE and the WEM, and the information of the WEM. The big screen presents the WEM promos repeatedly.

 “Expo and Cities” area mainly introduces the charming city, Shanghai. It highlights the interactive experience program titled “Flying Across Shanghai”. Through immersive visual experiences, the visitors are taken to tour around the sky and view a different cityscape of Shanghai. Shanghai is displayed in this way at the WEM Pavilion. It also gives an introduction to World Cities Day – the first international holiday advocated to set up by Chinese government and eventually passed by UN General Assembly that is the closing date of Expo Shanghai, October 31.

The exhibition area of “Expo and Energy” is specifically arranged to echo the theme of Expo Astana, “”Future Energy“. This area is divided into two parts: exhibition of energy technologies and machinery, and Expo’s concern about energy and environmental problems. It expresses that the World Expo is the product of industrial revolution and an Olympic event in the fields of science and technology, economy and culture. It has been witnessing the progress and evolution of human in using energy technologies.

On the one hand, the World Expo fully demonstrates, publicizes and promotes the popularization and application of energy technologies and machinery. On the other hand, the World Expo also takes the advantage of the world stage and distinctive themes to guide people to think and seek for answers regarding the energy and environmental problems of the realistic society.

 “The Future Expos” area is the last part of the exhibition. It gives an introduction to International Horticultural Exposition 2019 to be held in Beijing and Expo 2020 Dubai. From here, the visitors can learn about the venue, time and the information about the Expo Sites of the two Expos.
