Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai and his party are meeting with employees from the WEM

On February 20, Kyraubayev Zhoshykhan, Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai, representatives of Division of Europe and American Affairs of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and officials of Business Development Divisionof Information Office of Shanghai Municipality visited the World Expo Museum (hereinafter referred to as “WEM)”.

Liu Xiuhua, Director of WEM, accompanied the group led by the Consulate General visiting the nearly complete WEM. She gave a detailed introduction on WEM’s functional spaces, including temporary exhibition hall, cloud experience center, multi-function lecture hall and coffee shop. In No. 8 Permanent Exhibition Hall, Consulate General and his party learned that the WEM would showcase the history and highlights of the World Expos held after 2010, including Expo Astana 2017. Consulate General was keen to learn about the exhibition program for Expo Astana 2017 and said he would actively support the acquisition of exhibits and collections of each World Expos in the past and future.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kazakhstan and Kazakhstan’s “China Tourism Year” will start from January 1, 2017. Meanwhile, Specialized Expo 2017 is scheduled to take place between June 10 and September 10, 2017 in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, under the theme of “Future Energy”. As the only official museum of Bureau International des Expositions (hereinafter referred to as BIE), the WEM will be exhibiting for entire duration of Expo Astana 2017. The WEM aims to “bring in” the highlights of the World Expos through exhibition, exhibits collection, literature collection and study, communication and promotion, and other methods as well as to inherit the World Expo legacy through follow-up academic research and exchange activities.

In their talk, both parties engaged in adequate communication on how to carry out all forms of promotion work and cultural exchange activities before, during and after Expo Astana 2017. Representatives of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality expressed their willingness to provide support and platforms for cooperation and exchanges.
